Thank You

This will be my last post until the regular season starts to get underway. I'd just like to thank a few people..

-The Devils. We had a great team almost all year, and they gave me an impression for a while that this team could go all the way. I, as all Devils fans, apologize for all the Rangers fans in our house, but realistically, nothing that anyone could do. There's more Rangers fans than Devils fans, unfortunately. At least those that can afford to go to games.

-The Rock and all the workers. It's an amazing arena to call your own. Hey, I go to MSG (pretty shitty) and Shea Stadium (just shitty all around) and it's nice to have one of the nicest arenas in the country to call home 6 months out of the year. The workers there, you guys rock. Seems like you guys are actually into the game and care about the fans experience, I hope you guys have just as much intensity next year!

-The fans. I met a bunch of cool people at the games, the train station, on the bus rides to and from the train station. You all know who you are, and I really hope the best for you guys during the summer and to see you guys back next fall.

-The readers. I know I probably don't have a lot! But to those who do, thank you. It's more difficult than you think to run a website like this, especially when I'm still a full time student in high school. Hence why many of my recaps come at night, rather than in the morning. Not fun to wake up at 6 AM and do a game recap, especially if we were on the losing side.

As far as my life goes, by the time I make my next post on here, I'll have graduated high school, gotten a new job, and be a proud member of either Sussex County Community College or County College of Morris! I'll see everyone in October, and I'll miss you guys.

LETS GO DEVILS!

Devils-Rangers Playoff Review

The Devils lost a tough played series to the New York Rangers in 5 games.

Very disappointing. I think if we weren't playing the Rangers (Boston, maybe Philly) we'd still be playing. The Rangers just dominated us all year and it came back to bite us. I guess it's a life lesson in hockey, to get over your demons or they'll always come back.

Game 1: Wednesday, April 9th (L 4-1)
Game 2: Friday, April 11th (In Attendance, L 2-1)
Game 3: Sunday, April 13th (OTW 4-3)
Game 4: Wednesday, April 16th (L 4-3)
Game 5: Friday, April 18th (L 5-3)

My Predicted Devils Player of the Series: Martin Brodeur.

Devils Player of the Series: Patrik Elias. Led the Devils with 4 goals.

My Predicted Devils Series Outcome: Devils in 7.

Series Outcome: Rangers in 5.

HEARTBREAK AT HOME

http://devils.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=Recap&seas=20072008&gtype=3&gnum=145

My Take: Well, that was a heartbreaker.

The game looked out of hand early, with it being 4-1 not even halfway through the game. Then Salvador scored a fluke goal, and on a 5-on-3, Devils series MVP Patrik Elias scored his 4th goal of the series to make it a 4-3 game.

About 8 minutes left, John Madden gets loose, and then tripped up. Penalty shot, and you just know this will decide the game. Personally, I couldn't bear to watch, and it's probably a good thing I didn't see Madden's pretty good attempt that just missed going between Lundqvist's legs.

Nice to see Brodeur not shake Avery's hand. The douchebag didn't deserve it, but he does deserve to get run over by a garbage truck this summer.

Devils Player of the Game: Patrik Elias, with the goal that made it close.

Series Record: Rangers win series, 4-1

DEVILS MISTAKES PUT BACKS AGAINST WALL

http://devils.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=Recap&seas=20072008&gtype=3&gnum=144

My Take: Well, it's down to this. Win the next 3, or don't play again until October.

Can the Devils do it? I think they can. They've played better each game they've played against the Rangers, and they nearly won last night. Martin, Madden, Parise, all had good chances in front but couldn't find the back of the net.

This would've been much easier to go back to the Rock 2-2, and give the Devils a little wiggle room and a hell of a lot of momentum. Now, the Devils have no options. They must win or the season is over.

Like I said in the beginning of the series, if the Devils lose or win, it's on Marty. The Devils NEED Marty to perform in these 3 games. He let in 4, 2, 3, and 4 in the 4 games against the Rangers. For the Devils to have a real chance, he can't let in more than 2 goals. That means the defense must be responsible as well.

Devils Player of the Game: Patrik Elias, had 2 goals in the game. Almost had a hat trick.

Series Record: Rangers leading, 3-1

Next Game: Game 5 vs. New York Rangers

DEVILS LUCKY BOUNCES MAKE THIS A SERIES

My Take: I think we know Lundqvist's weakness.
Crappy shots.
Lundqvist has been stopping almost every legitimate shot over the past 3 games. The shots that got by him were all of deflections or weird bounces.
First goal: Brylin, hit off his stick as he was driving to the net.
Second goal: Elias, hit a man in front, then climbed over Lundqvist's chest and rolled slowly in.
Fourth goal: Madden, threw the puck in front, went off Rangers' Marc Stall's skate and went in.
We may not be able to beat Lundqvist with slap shots or wrist shots, we may need to look for more of what we got in Game 3.
Speaking of Avery, I HATE HIM. This series is personal now. In my view, if there is a hockey god and karma, the Devils deserve this series. The Rangers have been cocky cheaters.
I think we're gonna take Game 4, at least I hope we do. And if we can win this series, that will be the highlight of the season, no matter how far we get.
Devils Player of the Game: John Madden(2), with the GW goal 6 minutes into OT.
Series Record: Rangers leading 2-1
Next Game: Game 4 on Wednesday at New York Rangers

DEVILS BS'D INTO 2 GAME HOLE

http://devils.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=Recap&seas=20072008&gtype=3&gnum=142

My Take: One word. Bulls***.

Both the Devils and the refs. It's funny, on the way into the arena, one of the monitors in the box office was testing clips they were going to play during the game. The "Tonight's Officials" graphic popped up, and then after that the Rangers' logo showed on the screen. I joked with my friend that tonight's officials would be the Rangers, not thinking we would be doomed a few hours later.

First up, YOU NEED TO SCORE. The Devils dump and chase way too much. When you have a 2-on-2, pass the puck, don't just dump it in every time unless you have extra people. Never gonna win consistent hockey that way.

Second, the Devils need to be more physical. There were countless times they would let the Rangers sit behind the net with the puck for a good amount of time, and not even touch them. That needs to change if we're going to come back in this series.

Third, the refs screwed us. When it's a one goal game late, you can't make a BS call like the one made on Langenbrunner. That was crap, he barely touched the guy. Then Paul Martin came up with the puck and he got pulled down by a Ranger, and NO CALL. Then a bad icing call, and that's 3 f'd up calls in one freakin minute. I hear Lou went nuts on an official in the locker room, and good I hope he did. Do your job, ref.

Devils Player of the Game: John Madden, with the only goal.

Series Record: Rangers leading 2-0

Next Game: Wednesday at New York Rangers

GAME 1 LETDOWN

http://devils.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=Recap&seas=20072008&gtype=3&gnum=141

My Take: What was Brodeur thinking?

Off a puck slowly bouncing through the crease, it's like Marty froze. He just watched as it bounced through the crease, and watched as Callahan smacked it into the net, with just one last second diving attempt to save it.

That's a disappointment.

The game was a solid 1-1 game until that point, Martin scoring the only goal for the Devils. The 2nd goal just took the air out of the Devils. Maybe they could've won without that mental mistake from Brodeur. Avery scored a 3rd goal and then Dawes with the empty netter to make this look like a blow out on the score sheet, 4-1.

Remember when I said Brodeur would be the reason we won or lost this series?

Devils Player of the Game: Paul Martin.

Series Record: Rangers lead, 1-0

Next Game: Friday vs. New York Rangers
(In Attendance)

First Round Playoff Preview

The Devils will need to put their demons behind them, and beat the Rangers in a best-of-seven series in order to move on to the second round of the post season.

Game 1: Wednesday, April 9th
Game 2: Friday, April 11th (In Attendance)
Game 3: Sunday, April 13th
Game 4: Wednesday, April 16th
Game 5: Friday, April 18th (If Necessary)
Game 6: Sunday, April 20th (If Necessary)
Game 7: Tuesday, April 22nd (If Necessary)

Red- Devils home game. Blue- Rangers home game.

The Devils have home ice advantage (does it really matter in this situation?) in this series.

Key to the series: Shots, shots, shots. It's a known fact Lundqvist's weak spot is his glove side high. The Devils need to expose this in order for them to beat the Rag Queens.

I think psyche wise, I'd rather have the Devils face any other team than the Rangers. For whatever reason it'll be tough to beat them.

My Predicted Devils Player of the Series:

Martin Brodeur. If we win, it will be because of him. If we lose, it will be because of him.

My Predicted Series Outcome: Devils in 7. This will be a physical, intense series. If the Devils win, it's gonna go long.
